One thing about writing inspirational thoughts is that they are like flickering lights in the brain. Each thought is just a flash. It happens so fast, hardly remains in the memory for too long and rarely repeats itself the second time.
For this reason, majority of ‘determined writers’ move about with their notebooks. They don’t want to take chances. They know that once an idea hits this instant, it disappears the next.
If you think that your memory is incredibly sharp and you’re bound to recall an idea that popped up a moment ago, think again. If ever you’ll remember that crucial thought that hit you, you must have hindered other thoughts from interfering with it – you probably sang it like a song for a long period of time, or thought about it continually for some hours to commit it to memory, even at that, you’re not sure it will remain where you have stored it.
Inspirational thoughts or ideas hardly comes when you’re sitting before your blank sheet, they predominantly hit at odd times – the times you hardly expect. It could be while you are driving up the hill, sitting at the system pushing the wasted, enjoying a gush of cool fresh air, mopping the floor, dusting your chair, lifting your hand to hit a fly, doing push-ups – something like that.
That’s why you must always, always have that little note and pen with you. At all times – at all times!
You know very well that, that first thought won’t repeat itself, and when it does, it won’t come with such qaulity and flow as it first hit you.
Most writers carry their notes around like lunatics, noting down their thoughts as they come. Yes, they may appear weird and out of place to passers-by or those who don’t understand, but they’re the wise ones.
If you’re a writer reading this, do not allow those ideas, thoughts, inspirations pass you by. Try recording them immediately. They will be help you when writing block hits and when inspiration plays terrible hide and seek with you.
Personally, I use my phone because its more accessible, faster and easier to use for noting down some important thoughts. I note them down directly on my WordPress as drafts. I also use my Samsung notes sometimes. I also carry a notebook in my bag when possible.
There are other times I couldn’t note down my valuable thoughts and you know what? I committed them to my memory but you know what they say about brilliant people, and creative writers and short memory – I forgot the thoughts. I do not want this to happen again. I’m sure you do not want this to happen to you neither.
When was the last time you noted down your valuable thoughts? What did you use? Your device? A notebook? Which one do you prefer?
